Chris Coons, a Democratic Senator from Delaware, recently criticized President Trump in a Fox News column, accusing him of causing a rise in prices after taking office, inflicting pain on ordinary citizens. He wrote, "A month after President Trump took office, prices rose again, and everyone felt the economic hardship."
Coons mentioned that during his campaign, Trump vowed to lower prices but once in office, food prices rose, especially the price of eggs reaching a record high. According to him, the inflation rate rebounded to over 3% for the first time in eight months, and experts predict this trend may continue. Coons also pointed out that Trump's tariff policies are one of the main reasons for the price hikes.
Meanwhile, Trump tried to deflect responsibility, stating that the current inflation issue is unrelated to his return to the White House, instead blaming the Biden administration, accusing them of "reckless spending." Trump said in an interview, "They say 'It's all Trump's fault,' but I'm not involved in this. The Biden administration spent $9 trillion with no results."
In response, Coons criticized Trump's continual attempts to shirk responsibility, noting that even though Trump claims he can solve the pricing issue, public opinion polls show most voters are dissatisfied with his performance in controlling spending.
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump will continue to use the inflation issue to attack the Biden administration and promise to take measures to reduce consumer prices. However, Trump has also admitted that reducing prices is not easy, stating, "Once prices go up, it's hard to bring them back down."
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt responded to Coons' criticism, saying that Trump achieved more significant accomplishments in just one month than most presidents, emphasizing that Trump delivered on his promise of ushering in a "new golden age for America." Levitt also added that Trump took historic measures to secure the border, bolstered America's energy position, and committed to protecting American workers.
